A Message From Our Club President

Happy New Year! I anticipate that 2009 will be a fantastic year for the Camera Club of Richmond. Peter is working diligently on programs for the year. He has already scheduled Ken Conger to present a program on Nature Photography . I have seen Ken’s photographs and know that this is a program that you will really enjoy.

January is the club’s first evaluation session of the New Year. Please plan to submit images so you can qualify for the end-of-year competition. Taft provided club members with a fantastic reception in December. I was extremely pleased with the images that were submitted and the number of member who received awards. I want to congratulate all of you who won awards last year. Carole Hagaman took top honors by capturing the Best in Show award for 2008. She also has a nice article in the December PSA Journal.

The club’s traditional holiday photo shoot at Lewis Ginter Gardens will be held on Sunday evening at 5:00 when club members can dine together then go out to photograph the festival of lights. Dress warmly and bring a tripod. For those of you who have not taken night photos, club members will be available to provide some tips. Like previous years, I expect this to be a fun event and a good beginning to the New Year.

I would like to thank Rita Del Papa for serving as the Slide Director last year. She did an outstanding job throughout the year and at the end-of-year competition. I also want to thank Militza Simic for her outstanding work on our monthly Southern Exposure newsletter. Militza was responsible for making the transition from paper copy to electronic publishing. By doing that, the size of the newsletter was increased and she was able to include many more photos. Militza will remain as the club’s Secretary, a job that she has done equally well.

I would like to welcome Lee Walker to the board as the new Slide Director; Kyle Echols as the new Publication Director; and Karen Molzhon as the club’s first Librarian. I am looking forward to working with all of you during the coming year!

Finally, thanks to all of the club’s board members for their work during the past year. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to make all of our club’s programs and activities actually happen.

Best wishes to all for the New Year!
Greg Pels

Greg's Update on Upcoming Activities

I hope you have all enjoyed being members of the Camera Club of Richmond this year. It has been a wonderful year!

For those of you new to the club, we usually begin the New Year by sponsoring a Christmas light shoot at Lewis Ginter Gardens. I would like to continue that tradition again this year by scheduling the shoot at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11th. For those of you who would like to have dinner, we can meet by the cafeteria, get our food, and dine together then go out for the shoot.

I may be a bit tired from my treatments, but I will try to keep up with everyone the best I can. Otherwise, we can spread out and take a leisurely pace through the beautifully lighted gardens.

Hello

My aunt passed away many years ago and in her possessions was a Zeiss Ikon Contessa 35 mm camera. It seems to be in good condition and I have taken some photographs with the camera that have come out OK. My dilemma is that I am trying to find a good home for the camera. My search of the internet tells me that, while this was a high quality camera in it's day, there is not much demand and it is not worth much. If any of your members are interested in the camera, please have them comtact me.

Thanks,

George Talley
