From the President...
I would like to thank all of the club board members for filling in during my recent absence. June has been a really trying month for me since I was back in the hospital for over three weeks. I am currently on the mend and hope to see everyone at the July evaluation meeting. The board will be proposing some very nice field trips that will begin in July and run right up into the fall. These field trips provide an excellent opportunity for members to get out to take some photos and to get to know each other. It doesn't matter if you shoot with a point-and-shoot camera or a DSLR. The purpose of the shoots is to get out, have some fun, and make some photographs. So please take a serious look at some of the planned events and make an effort to come out and enjoy some.. Also, if you want to schedule a shoot, just e:mail members to let them know where and when to meet. It’s that simple. Have a great summer! |

Sshhh! You’re in the LIBRARY! The "spring cleaning" of our library has
greatly reduced the volume of material we’re housing at the SMV. What
little is left of magazines dated before 2000 are still up for grabs!
We’ll try to have the Library cabinet set out at 6:30 p.m. before the
upcoming meeting for your browsing pleasure. If you're interested in any
“disposable” magazines or in borrowing any of the newer ones, please do
this before the meeting, not after, as the Museum likes to see us
out of the room “on time.” See you Wednesday! |

Coming in August… We are proud to announce that Victoria Dye will be our featured guest at the August general meeting. Victoria Dye is an award-winning photographer from Charlottesville, VA. Nature subjects have defined her photography from the beginning. Since graduating from Veterinary School in 1994, her passion for photography has grown and matured. She is primarily self taught and has augmented her training with classes offered at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography and the Olympic Mountain School of Photography. Victoria’s other passion is teaching. Educating and working with students of all ages is personally rewarding. She teaches digital photography classes through Albemarle County’s Open Doors, Crossroads Art Center, Farmington Country Club and Piedmont Virginia Community College as well as privately. She also speaks to various community groups in the area. She hopes to educate the public through her photography. By showing the beauty and majesty of nature she hopes people will appreciate and help protect these precious resources. She donates a percentage of the proceeds from her fine art images to non profit groups such as the Friends of the Bosque del Apache, NWR and Coopers Rock Mountain Lion Sanctuary. Continuing her support of non profit groups, she is serving as Vice President on the board of directors for the Ivy Creek Foundation in Charlottesville, VA. Victoria rotates her work through several Virginia galleries, Crossroads Art Center in Richmond, Black Rock at Wintergreen and Migration in Charlottesville. She is currently a member of the National Association of Nature Photographers, The Ivy Creek Foundation, The Friends of the Bosque and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Please plan to be there August 12th for what will be a fascinating evening. |

Kodak Retires Kodachrome Color Film After 74-Year RunBy Bloomberg News Eastman Kodak Co., the
photography pioneer whose Kodachrome film inspired Paul Simon's 1973 hit
of the same name, said it will retire the 74-year-old product this year
after sales dwindled and most labs stopped processing it. The Rochester, New York-based company has seen its
profitable film business "evaporate" as digital cameras gained dominance,
Chief Executive Officer Antonio Perez said earlier this year. The company
lost $4.53 billion in market value in 2008 as it struggled to show
investors it had a place in the new technology. End of another era. Like rotary
dial phones, 33 rpm LP's, the Twist, and Elvis -- gone, but not forgotten.
Kinda sad, isn't it? |

ATTENTION ALL PHOTOGRAPHY AFICIONADOS: Anybody? Hello? To keep the Newsletter portion of the CCR website alive and interesting, we need more than just the board members to contribute. Do you have a special interest related to photography? Have you bought or built some nifty gadget to improve your picture taking? Developed some esoteric technique to capture your subject? Experimented with a fantastic new camera? We’d like to hear about it and share it with the rest of the membership. Submit a brief write-up and we’ll see about putting in “the next issue” of Southern Exposure. E:mail it to publications@cameraclubofrichmond.com “It is what it is?” No -- it is what you make it! |
