ANNUAL PICNIC -- IT'S GONNA BE GREAT! |
|
Two
things to remember for the picnic: your contribution to the communal
food pile, and your camera. Saturday, October 24th
is the date, from 11:00A to 4:00P., and it's creeping up on us
at warp speed. We anticipate a comfortable Fall day, though given the
weather lately it might well be quite cool. I'd advise bringing a
sweater or jacket, "just in case." Be prepared for some challenging
horseshoe matches, and maybe an energetic
volleyball game or three. There are short walking trails through the woods
for us less-athletic types; in
addition we'll have access to the James River for picture-taking. Only two restrictions apply: no alcoholic beverages
and no pets are allowed on the
Roslyn Center grounds. You're encouraged to bring your children and/or
grandchildren with you to enjoy the day. Actually, we have something
special for the kids:
Recycle, our very own
CCR-member clown, will be on hand to entertain the youngsters and
amuse us oldsters.
Click on
http://roslyncenter.org/directions2.shtml for directions to the
picnic site. I'll be lookin' for ya! |
|
|
I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE...
Anybody?
Hello?
|
|
To keep the
Newsletter portion of the CCR website alive and interesting, we need your
input. Do you have a special
interest related to photography? Have you bought or built some nifty
gadget to improve your picture taking? Developed some esoteric
technique to capture your subject? Experimented with a fantastic new
camera? We’d like to hear about it and share it with the rest of
the membership. Submit a brief write-up and we’ll see about putting it in
“the next issue” of Southern Exposure. E:mail it to
publications@cameraclubofrichmond.com |

WE'VE COME A LONG WAY -- Part II |
|
|
|
Kodak developed an experimental digital camera in 1975,
and over the years registered
literally thousands of patents relating to digital photography. Note the
manual focus rod
on the lens, which was adapted from one of Kodak’s 8mm movie cameras.
Weight: 8 pounds
Output: Black-and-white image
Recording medium: Digital cassette tape
Resolution: 0.01 megapixels
It was about the size of a toaster.

|
Sony unveiled the first commercially available "digital"
camera, dubbed the Mavica,
in 1981. It wasn’t digital as we know it today; it actually captured a
stop-frame video
image using television technology. Optically it was on a par with film
cameras, and
offered several interchangeable lenses.

Recording medium: two-inch floppy disks.
Viewing medium: TV set or video monitor.
Light sensitivity: rated at ISO 200.
Shutter speed: 1/60th sec, non-adjustable.
Up to fifty color photos could be stored on one floppy.
