END-OF-YEAR COMPETITION RULES
Groups
Based on input and feedback on last year’s End of Year Competition several changes have been
implemented, the largest of those changes was the creation of groups. Below are clarifications
on each group. The goal was to level the playing field and allow each participant to be judged
and compete with others of similar skill level.
Both Groups have all of the Categories & Mediums listed in subsequent chapters.
Group A (Seasoned Exhibitor)
Any paid member can enter images in the ‘Group A’ competition, but if you have won any Camera Club
of Richmond Memorial Award or have received more than ‘3 Certificates’ you are required to compete
in this category. Once you have competed in this category you must remain, unless otherwise deemed
by the board of directors, in that group next year.
Group A is really for the more seasoned photographer and exhibitor.
Group B (Novice Exhibitor)
Any paid member who has not won any Camera Club of Richmond Memorial Award or have received less
than ‘3 Certificates’ can enter images in the ‘Group B’ competition.
Once a member achieves either of these restrictions they are automatically moved into the ‘Group A’
competition.
‘Group B’ is intended to offer all members a chance to enter their photographs, prints, and/or slides
and compete with their fellow members on a similar skill level. This is not meant to segment the members
or to segregate by perceived quality. It is highly possible that a member of the ‘Group B’ could produce
a photograph as good as or maybe even better than a ‘Group A’ member. Despite this it can be somewhat
daunting at times to compete against more experienced members when you first start, for simply that reason.
1. All rules as to size and presentation are the same as for evaluations.
2. Members may enter a total of 15 photos for End of Year judging. Those photos
may be entered in any format or category listed below, if entered as the same for
evaluation during the year.
3. Members will determine the category for each of their entries.
4. A First Place and a Second Place, will be awarded in each category.
5. Judges may give a 3rd place but it is not required.
6. Honorable mentions will be given at the judge’s discretion up to 10% of each
category.
7. Winners will be selected in the following categories based on the group assigned:
